Grange

Formal terraces in reclaimed Lakeland slate.

The Grange project involved designing a formal garden to reflect the evolving ideas of a highly engaged client. The brief was to create a traditional, structured space with terraced levels and formal sightlines, using reclaimed green slate throughout. We constructed sweeping terraces, feature steps, and a rockery, and used traditional stone dressing techniques to form curved slate walls and a screening wall to conceal an oil tank. Despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and material shortages, we successfully sourced matching green stone to maintain visual consistency. A gravelled area, black steel gates, and beech hedging completed the look. The result is a refined, classically structured garden that feels established and in keeping with the property.
